Call for entries to the Radharc Awards 2021

The Radharc Trust has today announced the call for entries of documentary films of outstanding quality in the spirit of Radharc, to be honoured at the 2021 Awards Event.

The Radharc Awards were established in 2002 to honour the legacy of the Radharc Films production unit and its achievements in religious affairs programming for Irish television.  Between 1962 and 1997, the Radharc series earned a national and international reputation for its thoughtful and at times provocative religious documentary films. The Radharc Team strove to present challenging subject matter to a sometimes conservative Irish audience through well-researched and technically skilful productions, made popular by their common-sense lyricism and occasional humour.

The Radharc Awards honour the legacy of the Radharc Films production unit and its reputation for thoughtful and provocative religious affairs programming for Irish television. The Radharc Awards aim to encourage similar high standards in documentary production, and are presented to documentary films of outstanding quality that address national or global topics of social justice, human rights, spirituality, religious faith and heritage.

There are two categories for entries this year. Category one is an award for Irish produced television documentaries broadcast for the first time on any free to air channel on the island of Ireland between 22 September 2018 and 1 September 2021.

Category two is an award for documentaries produced in Ireland for first time digital distribution on a publicly accessible platform between 22 September 2018 and 1 September 2021.

The closing date for the receipt of all entries is Friday 3 September 2021. Winners of The Radharc Awards will be announced in October 2021.
